Privacy Policy
Privacy at Grammate
Grammate is a Windows writing tool with two processing choices: Local Mode on your computer and Cloud Mode through hosted services. This policy explains what each path means for your data.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the Grammate website, Windows desktop app, optional browser helper extension, account and billing pages, cloud AI features, local AI features, downloads, support, and diagnostics.
When we say "Grammate," "we," "us," or "our," we mean the Grammate product and the team operating it. When we say "you," we mean the person using the website, app, or services.
2. Information We Collect
Account and billing information
If you create an account or subscribe, we process information such as your email address, authentication session, plan, subscription status, billing interval, and related account identifiers. Payment details are handled by Stripe; Grammate does not store your full card number.
App and device information
The app may create an installation ID, store local settings, remember preferences, and record app version, platform, operating system release, architecture, timing, quota, and provider status for operation and debugging.
Diagnostics and support information
If you submit a bug report, we may receive the report text you enter, your contact email, your account email if signed in, your installation ID, app version, operating system details, and attached log files. Automatic crash and error reports may include stack traces, release version, environment, and basic account identifiers.
Website and checkout information
When you use the landing site or checkout page, your browser may send basic technical information needed to serve the site. Checkout and subscription activity is processed by Stripe and linked back to your Grammate account so your plan can be activated.
3. Writing Text and AI Processing
Local Mode
When you use Local Mode, selected text is sent to a local model endpoint on your own Windows PC. Grammate is designed so the correction text stays on your machine for that local workflow.
Cloud Mode
When you use Cloud Mode, the text you ask Grammate to correct, improve, rewrite, or change tone is sent through Grammate's hosted proxy to the configured AI inference provider needed to return the result. The active provider may change based on routing, fallback, availability, or plan configuration. We also process related metadata such as action type, model, request ID, character count, estimated tokens, usage tokens, quota status, provider routing, and timing information.
Browser helper extension
The optional browser helper improves browser text-field and selection detection. It is designed to connect back to the local Grammate desktop bridge on your device rather than operate as a separate tracking service.
4. How We Use Information
We use information to provide grammar correction, tone changes, cloud quota checks, account sign-in, subscriptions, downloads, app updates, support, abuse prevention, troubleshooting, security, service reliability, and product improvement.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your private selected text for advertising.
6. Retention
Local settings remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app. Account, billing, quota, support, and diagnostics records are kept only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required for legal, tax, security, fraud-prevention, or dispute reasons.
7. Your Choices
You can choose Local Mode when you do not want selected text processed by hosted AI. You can sign out of your account, uninstall the app, avoid the optional browser helper, or contact us to request access, correction, deletion, or export of personal information associated with your account.
Some data is required to provide accounts, paid plans, fraud prevention, security, or legal compliance. If you ask us to delete required account data, some services may no longer work.
8. Security
We use reasonable safeguards for the size and nature of the product. For example, the desktop app stores sensitive tokens using operating-system-backed secure storage when available, and logs redact common secrets such as API keys and authorization tokens.
No service can guarantee perfect security. Please use a strong password and keep your device secure.
9. Children
Grammate is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
10. Changes
We may update this policy as Grammate changes. If an update is material, we will use reasonable efforts to provide notice through the website, app, or account email.
11. Contact
Questions or privacy requests can be sent to grammate.support@proton.me.
